Nashville Metro athletics director Roosevelt Sanders said both the Region 5-AA and 6-AAA basketball tournaments will be postponed a day after a tornado struck the area early Tuesday morning.

"Nashville Mayor (John) Cooper has requested that all extra activities not take place in Nashville today," Hunters Lane athletics director Chip Sullivan wrote to region tournament coaches. "With that being said, everything with our Region (6-AAA) tournament is pushed back one day."

Both tournaments will be pushed back one day. The Region 6-AAA tournament will resume Wednesday at Overton and the Region 5-AA tournament will resume Wednesday at Maplewood with boys semifinals at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at both sites. The girls championship games will be held Thursday, and the boys championship games are Friday.

"Everyone in the Metro Schools family indirectly or directly has been affected by this (storm)," Sanders told The Tennessean. "They are either helping out or cleaning up at their homes. We need to give people a day to help out"

Those are the lone two Nashville areas that have postponed games.

Region 4-AA, which is holding its tournament at Tennessee Tech, has postponed its tournament a day as well.

Upperman coach Dana McWilliams said three of the school's basketball players – two girls and one boy – have lost their homes because of the storms.

The boys semifinals will be played at Watertown on Wednesday. The girls championship is Thursday at Tennessee Tech and the boys is Friday at Tennessee Tech.
